The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) was a congressional body set up in the late 1970s to reexamine the assassination of President Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King. After the Watergate scandal and other questionable conduct by the Executive Branch, this was one of several efforts at oversight. Unfortunately, this committee got in bed with conspiracy liars, like Robert Groden, and they had a political incentive to find something that would justify their existence. This was very different from the original government investigation of President Kennedy’s murder – The President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy, a.k.a. The Warren Commission – because only a conclusion of conspiracy would justify the time and money that Congress spent on this reinvestigation.
Conspiracy theorists love to misrepresent the findings of the HSCA and overlook the pitfalls of the committee’s very nature.
